Key West

Key West with its charming cottage like homes, relaxed Conch attitude, and overwhelming number of recreational activities makes it an outstanding destination for any visitor to the Fabulous Florida Keys.

This Florida Keys southernmost city sits almost entirely on its namesake 8-square mile island and is the south terminus of US-1. The west end of the island is known as Old Town while New Town is to the east. At a distance of about 100 miles, the city is much closer to Havana, Cuba than it is to Miami, Florida.

There is always something to do in this fascinating town. The calendar is filled with celebrations. Fantasy Fest takes place in October while July hosts summer festivals like the Annual Underwater Festival and Hemingway Days.

The quaint and quirky shops lining the Old Town lanes and a number of bustling bars on Duval Street make this an exciting oasis and perfect getaway for any destination wedding or vacation. Duval Street is a block by block experience. Extraordinary people and a variety of aromas make a trek along this path a memorable event.

This little piece of paradise offers world class fishing, diving, snorkeling, kayaking, ecotours, night life, dining, and shopping. Several days a week you’ll find cruise ships docked here unloading passengers for day tours through town—most are here to shop and take in the local culture.

The rich and famous flock here too. Legend claims that Ernest Hemingway wrote, “A Farewell to Arms” here and several presidents, including Truman, Kennedy, and Eisenhower, were fond of making long visits during the winter.

In earlier times, before Henry Flagler’s railroad connected the city to points north, people were isolated here and many made a good living as wreckers. Locals would wait for ships to ground on the shallow reefs offshore then head out to recover the sunken cargos. During the late 1800s this was one of the richest cities in the U.S.

The local airport has a 4800-foot runway and is served by several major airlines. You can also find sight seeing tours and flight instruction at the Key West Airport.
