All About Key Largo Weather and Water Conditions

Key Largo weather with its tropical climate and gorgeous sunsets definitely gives you the feeling that there is no place in the world like the Fabulous Florida Keys.

Like other places in this island chain, Key Largo temperatures remain warm and comfortable throughout the year. You'll never see snow or feel a freeze here.

The Key Largo summertime weather forecast is easy to memorize. Normally everyday is very much the same, we have average highs in the 90’s with nighttime lows in the 80’s and a 30% chance of a shower.

Typical winter temperatures are somewhat cooler so it is advisable to bring a sweater or warmer clothing if you are traveling here during the winter tourist season. Rain chance in the winter and early spring months is usually near zero.

Water temperatures allow diving and snorkeling year round. If you plan to participate in inshore or offshore boating or fishing on your own boat it is a wise idea to check the wind and wave forecast before you go.

The prevailing wind has the greatest effect on inshore sea conditions in the Key Largo area.

Offshore things are a little different. Wind velocity still largely determines wave height, however interaction between the wind and Gulfstream also comes into play.

A reported wind of less than 12 knots will normally result in relatively calm seas. Any higher and small whitecaps start to develop on wave tops.

A strong current running against a brisk wind will really chop up the offshore ocean waters and make for a rough ride on any size boat.

The reverse is also true, current and wind running in the same direction will tend to reduce the size of the waves and make a windy day more pleasent.
