Florida Keys Vacation Homes
Where Privacy and Luxury Meet

Florida Keys vacation homes are a great alternative to bedding down in a big hotel or beach resort. Vacation homes allow you to create your own home-away-from-home atmosphere in a way that suits your family.

Let's take a look at some of the pros and cons of renting a vacation home as compared to booking a hotel, motel, or resort room in the Florida Keys and what different parts of the island chain have to offer those visiting for pleasure or business.

Advantages of Vacation Homes

Some of the major advantages you will enjoy if you choose to rent one of the many Florida Keys vacation homes available throughout the islands include:

  • Much more privacy than one would likely enjoy at all but the most exclusive hotels.
  • Much more space then you'd get at a hotel.
  • The possibility of your own private boat dockage or even boat included boat use.
  • Your own kitchen facilities, you can cook at the house if you choose or sample local eateries.
  • You may also have access to your own pool, outdoor bar and cooking, and yard.

One of the big advantages of staying in one of the many Florida Keys vacation homes available to you is that you can enjoy luxury accommodations in one of the less-visited regions of the Keys that are not served by any big hotels. Big town centers, such as Key Largo and Key West, have plenty of hotels to choose from, but if you want to be in more secluded areas of the Keys like Key Colony Beach, areas of the Lower Keys, or certain Upper Keys locations, a vacation home will be the your best choice.

There's more to vacation homes than just privacy. Some people don’t only want to be away from the hustle and bustle for privacy’s sake, but they also want to experience some seclusion and disconnect from the world, at least for a while. A vacation home allows you to recharge your batteries without interruptions.

You can also choose from a wide variety of sizes, levels of luxury, and accompanying accoutrements when choosing to rent a vacation home. Florida Keys rentals range from small one-bedroom townhouses to multiple bedroom condos to luxury single family homes designed to accommodate a large group. More space to spread out can particularly important if you have a big family.

Florida Keys Vacation Homes, Choose Your Location

Each region of the Florida Keys offers a similar yet unique experience. Virtually anywhere you stay you'll be able to enjoy some diving, snorkeling, or fishing all while enjoying generally excellent weather and sea conditions year-round.

Key Largo has self-proclaimed itself the "Dive Capital of the World" and with good reason. This area often has very clear water conditions which facilities excellent underwater visibility. They also have a number of large high-profile wrecks for divers to explore. With many inshore reefs snorkelling here is excellent too. If being underwater is your goal then Key Largo is a top choice.

Key West offers more of a nightlife scene and is also an excellent venue for fishing, as well as being an area rich in historical sites. Islamorada is also an excellent choice for someone looking to charter a fishing boat or get below on a dive trip.

Middle Keys visitors will find the city of Marathon offers a little of everything. You'll find some excellent fishing charter captains here, the best access to the Gulf of Mexico of anywhere in the Keys, some outstanding diving including a nice wreck dive, and a myriad of restaurants.

If experiencing the wildlife of the Keys is what interests you most, you may want to seek out a vacation home in the Lower Keys, from where you can easily take in sights like the National Key Deer Wildlife Refuge, Great White Heron Refuge, and Bahia Honda State Park.

Disadvantages of Vacation Homes

There are only a few benefits that hotels and big resorts have over a secluded vacation home. At a hotel you do get your beds made everyday, have the option of enjoying the hotel restaurant and lounge, or having room service brought to you. A vacation home rental requires a bit more of a "do-it-yourself" attitude, although depending on the area of the home location you may be able to order quite a variety of food for delivery.

Being in a house versus a hotel room is really a lifestyle preference that some people prefer. If you like the idea of spending a day fishing offshore and then returning to your vacation home to cook up your catch for the family, a rental home is a good option for you.
